THE SERVICE DINING ROOMS
Whilst we are continually striving to avoid wastage, there are inevitably times when we have surplus stock. These loaves go to inspiring charities like The Service Dining Rooms, who provide 800+ meals a day to the homeless and to feeding projects and schools across Cape Town, filling the stomachs of those who need it most.
RE-USEABLE PAN LINERS
Rather than using chemical release sprays or silicone-lined pans, both of which consume large quantities of water for washing, we make our own custom-fitted Teflon liners. Easily removed and re-used many times, they can be simply cleaned with minimal water usage.
BREADTAGS FOR WHEELCHAIRS
All our breadtags are upcycled from Breadtags for Wheelchairs. Started by retired nurse Mary Honeybun in 2006, this wonderful initiative collects old breadtags to recycle, and from this they are able to buy an average 75 wheelchairs annually. We are more than happy to pay above the odds to support their cause. Sorted and sterilised, these upcycled tags help keep our loaves tidy and fresh.
ALTERNATIVE PACKAGING
Although our standard BOPP bags are ideal for freezing and are recyclable, we support efforts by a number of our stockists to minimise their use of plastics. To this end, we use brown paper or corn starch bags specifically for these retailers.
